The illustrations in Explanations and Clarifications combine elements from pictures I made myself - photographs or computer generated graphics - and images from public domain sources. I want them to seem as if you discovered them while walking down the street. The pictures appear to be explaining something, but without context they push you to speculate and try to discover their meaning. If you find the experience curious, I’ve done my job.

The sources for material added to my original work include the New York City Public Library Online Collection, early 20th century text books and product catalogs from the collection at Archive.org, the University of Oregon collection of early 20th century school texts, and pictures illustrating US patents. The QR codes do work and relate to the images.

Even with this book’s large pages there is detail here that resolves fully only in large, very detailed prints made from the files. Yes, prints are available.
