Collaborating with the Land

The photographers whose work is presented in this book explored the Northern New Mexican landscape while asking themselves “How might we think of landscape imagery as active rather than a passive gaze?”

The artists photographed, printed, manipulated the prints, brought the prints back into the landscape, rephotographed, and incorporated studio images.They played, experimented, slipped, fell, got wet and started again. And again. Slowly new meanings, new connections with the landscape, were formed. The photos here are a result of a true collaboration between the land and the artists.
