The Dancer as the Invisible Girl is a hybrid photo/comic book. I placed photos of Nicole Pierce, a modern dancer I’ve been photographing for many years, into frames of a Fantastic Four comic book. (For those not familiar with comics, Fantastic Four is a Marvel comic, created in the sixties by the great team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, about four friends/relatives who gain super powers when they go on an experimental mission into outer space.) I retained some elements from the original—including the layout of the individual pages and one or two frames per page. I added captions on the bottom of each page to help the reader follow the quite simple narrative thread. Ambiguities remain, but as someone once said, I hope the reader will meet the comic half way.
