"The Grand Tour Travel Album" documents an 80-day, 11,900-mile 1889 European tour by four young, unmarried women: Cora, Harriet, June and "Myself," the photographer and curator of the album. Sailing from New York to England on the SS Celtic, they journeyed to the capitals of Scandinavia and Europe, then returned via England to New York. The album displays both commercial souvenir prints and very early Kodak snapshots taken by Myself's Kodak #1. The album is filled with lovely views of cities and buildings, plus candid snapshots of the travelers, life on a White Star liner, and much more. This facsimile contains high-resolution scans from the original album pages, printed on heavy stock and wire-bound so each page opens flat. The album is a supplement to the 2017 New England Journal of Photographic History, #175, which features photographic historian Ron Polito's in-depth research on the album, the photographs, the ships, the travelers, their itinerary and other details, and is available on Magcloud. © 2018
