The 2025 New England Journal of Photographic History contains four articles that further our knowledge of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century photography in New England. "Helen Keller, Annie Pratt and the Whitman Studio" explores the Massachusetts photographer who produced some of the most iconic photographs of Helen Keller when Keller was becoming well-known worldwide.

"The Development of Paper Processes in Early Boston Photography" describes how photographers in the city responded to the introduction of non-daguerreian processes.

"The Southworth & Hawes Studio: The Carte de Visite Years" details the lesser known and relatively brief period during which the famous firm produced cartes de visite for their customers.

Finally, "The Other Southworth" tells the story of A.S. Southworth’s half cousin, who explored the emerging photographic business of the 1840s before discovering that his calling lay elsewhere.
