Angela Turner (turnerpublishing)

Growing up, I always loved magazines - I am a self-proclaimed magazine junkie! I never imagined pursuing a career in the magazine industry. For me, it was born out of necessity to fill a void in the textured/curly hair community. It was always my dream to become a journalist and I pursued that path earlier in my career. In 1984 I studied at CUNY-City University of New York. After leaving CUNY, I was accepted into the internship program at CNN - New York. I decided to go back to school in 1990 and graduated from Connecticut School of Broadcasting and Journalism. From 1988 - 1990 I was employed by Lifestyle Media Group - New Jersey Goodlife Magazine, a family owned New Jersey based publication. This experience taught me a lot and I enjoyed the pace and energy of that environment. In 1991 I moved back to New York to work for the Colgreene Broadcasting Group as their News Anchor/News Director at WHUC/WRVW radio stations. More recently my time has been spent working in the financial industry, in Retail Banking, Management and Real Estate. In 2009, I decided that this would be the last time I would chemically straighten my hair and so began my personal journey. Generally, when one makes such a decision to embark on something new, research is required. I have always sought out magazines, trade publications or books as my resource. The books were pretty easy to find, however, there were no magazines that addressed the needs of this niche market. Fast Forward to 2013 - Curls, Twists, Coils & Kinks Magazine is born and it is my mission to make this publication the authoritative resource guide for all ethnicities with textured/curly hair. My goal is to empower young and mature naturals to embrace and love their textured hair, as well as engage our readers with relevant editorial content. I am filled with passion and excitement about taking this journey. I hope you are equally enthused to take this journey with me.
