Too often, surrounded by the ubiquitous visibility of the everyday world, we forget about the magic inherent in light around us. The ever-present luminosity of the natural world was revealed to me as a kid wandering around the in the west Texas desert and further refined during my career as a ranger in Yosemite National Park. I began a life-long passion for photography as one method to share with others the splendor of the natural world. This began with a focus on grand landscape imagery but soon included more intimate subjects where the superior qualities of one element within the larger view are isolated, highlighted and extolled. Often they provide the viewer with a more personal and emotionally significant experience. Later, I began to notice the intricacies in nature’s designs. And these designs led me ever deeper into the abstractions that lie at the heart of nature and the universe. I have even become enamored with the abstractions to be found and photographed in the man-made world of architectural and industrial subjects, including old and deteriorating vehicles.
