Nasser K (nasserk)

Nasser K was born in Iran in 1960 and moved to the United States to attend college at the age of 17. After completing an MBA in technology, he pursued his abiding interest of acting. For over a decade he performed in and directed numerous plays in the Cambridge and Boston area. In recent years he has gravitated to visual art, concentrating on photography, at which he is self-taught.

Nasser's street and documentary work reflects his social and personal values and belief in community at large. He brings a distinctive theatrical tension to his work and compares his self-expression in photography to creating in theater, saying, “The photographer sees the outer world through the viewfinder and the actor through the eyes of his character.”

Nasser has collaborated as a photographer on a number of books of popular culture, such as She's Got Legs: A History of Hemlines and Fashion and the forthcoming The Sweater: A History, and a performance documentary entitled Kneading Memories.

His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in the Boston area, notably 555 Gallery, Gallery 263, the Danforth Art Museum, the Griffin Museum of Photography, and the Photographic Resource Center.
