Katherine Matos (kmatos51889)

Katherine Matos is an artist- teacher from Brooklyn, New York. She is a senior in Art and Design Education at Pratt Institute. She has experience teaching children from the ages of 3-20 years old and is currently student teaching at the East Side Community High school. To date, she has gained most of her teaching experience working in the Saturday Art School, an art program based in Pratt Institute for children from the ages of 3-18 years old. She has also worked as an assistant teacher in a Summer Camp, Art Shack for artist McKendree Key in Brooklyn and as a College Fellow in a pilot program called College Inquiry based in the Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High School. The lessons she teaches incorporate studio skills with themes, techniques, and knowledge of art history and contemporary art. She enjoys teaching printmaking, painting, and collage lessons because they are the messiest and most enjoyable classes for herself and her students. Her best job ever was working with children with special needs at Camp Ramapo in Rhinebeck, New York as a Ceramics Facilitator. It was a fantastic learning and teaching experience that she hopes to return to next summer! This experience solidified her commitment to the field of education.
