Joelle St. Julien (Jsjulien)

Joelle Andreana St. Julien is a Photographer based in Southwest Florida and is currently a senior at Ringling College of Art & Design. Joelle’s work uses a documentary approach to focus on the complex issues and unjust discrimination Black people face today. Her work focuses not only on the afflictions of Black People but also on how they feel from constantly being discriminated against. Her work is driven by the senseless deaths of people of color, the stigmas surrounding Black Males and their mental health, and cultural negligence Black Women experience. Joelle stages cinematic scenes portraying urban Black Men and Women against vivid and saturated colors that represent their ancestry. Her photographs feel seeming familiar but offer the viewer a sense of reality of the struggles Black people in America face today.
