De'Junae Johnson (dayjuhd)

De’Junae Johnson is a creative writer and singer who hopes to combine her desire to have her own magazine/other publications with her gift of teaching/writing songs. When she was a teenager she was advised by her uncle to start writing poems only to then turn them into songs, due to her desire to sing. She kept writing poems until it became her process for getting out her feelings and expressing herself. Her uncle, who felt it would be a good stage name for her, gave her the name Day-Juh-D. It refers to who she is creatively as an artist.

She loves to write straight from the heart, turning poetry into songs and that’s how she wants to communicate to her young audience. She graduated from Cal State Dominguez Hills and received a Bachelor's degree in Communications. During her education for her Bachelor's degree she began interning at a performing arts school, for kids ages 5 to 13, as a writer for their magazine. With her degree she planned to start her own magazine so the internship was the perfect placement for her. Through the job she had as an after-school teacher she discovered that she was really good at something that others complimented her on. Nearly every year around the Christmas holiday, the after-school program she worked at, for over seven years, put on a Christmas program and each teacher was required to teach his or her class a song. This excited her because she loves music and lyrics, and it was even more fun for her to be given the freedom and trust to teach the music and lyrics in her own way. She taught the youngest classes, starting at the age of six to the oldest, up to 12 years in age. She was able to successfully teach them new music and lyrics. This is proven through their ability to remember the songs and perform them well.

If you have a young person that is struggling to memorize or learn literary content contact Day-Juh-D and let her help. Give her a chance to make your young person's learning experience memorable and musical.
