Things I’m almost certain never happened -- but pop into my head from time to time, matched with photographs from my life that I’m certain I saw but are not necessarily truer than these things I ‘remember’ that never were.

An infusion or false memories onto real ones. Or vice versa.

1. the act of confabulating; conversation; discussion.

2. (Psychiatry) the replacement of a gap in a person's memory by a falsification that he or she believes to be true.

early 17th century: from Latin confabulat- 'chatted together', from the verb confabulari, from con- 'together' + fabulari (from fabula 'fable')
