Break Down: The Weary Blues seeks to question what having the blues looks like through typographic exploration, symbolic metaphor, and word play; all while journeying through the expressive poem The Weary Blues authored by Langston Hughes. Additionally, each spread is accompanied by a blues song expressing the emotion of the composition. The four symbols of the triangle, circle, cross, and wave are used to mirror the underlying history associated with this musical art form, as well as articulate the emotional heft that comes with a burdensome past. From the Delta to the Crossroads, there is never a dull moment when it comes to the blues.
