In celebration of the sesquicentennial of the Tompkins County Public Library in Ithaca, New York, Montage Histories illustrates significant buildings, places, and landscapes of Tompkins County from 1864 to 2014. The photographers used the practice of rephotography, in which historic images are merged with new photographs of the same site, to create a montage that captures life in Tompkins County since the Civil War. This exhibit catalogue is a collaboration between Professor Harry Littell’s advanced photography students at Tompkins Cortland Community College, the Tompkins County Public Library, The History Center in Tompkins County, and authors Bret Leraul and Christine “Xine” Yao of the Society for Humanities, Cornell University.
