Contested Visions presents a lavishly illustrated collection of images by California missions photographer and archaeologist Ruben G. Mendoza. This publication is intended to commemorate the Serra Tricentennial, which acknowledges the 300th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the California missions. Essays include such themes as that of Father Junípero Serra, OFM, Native Californians, the Pobladores or Hispanic settlers of the time, Mission Industries, and the missions proper. The images published here represent 18 years of the author's life working as an archaeologist and photographer in the missions of California's central coast and the Diocese of Monterey.
