This historical novel is the story of a Civil War soldier and his friends, starting in the midst of war and continuing through their later lives. They were Irish immigrants to America, and the stories of these two countries are interwoven in their lives. This is a work of fiction, but it is based on the life of the author's ancestor William H. Keane.
This book is a translation. The original title is Cogadh Dearg, published in 2008 in Ireland by Coiscéim, by Séamas Ó Neachtain (James Norton in Irish).
