As we turn the pages of October, we find ourselves in the heart of Black History Month — a time not simply to remember, but to reclaim, to celebrate, and to listen. It is a month that reminds us that Black history is not a sidebar to British history, but its backbone; woven through our arts, our activism, our classrooms, our cinemas, and our communities. This issue is our love letter to that legacy and its living future — to the stories that were long left untold, and to the voices who are now telling them on their own terms, loudly and beautifully.

On our cover is Mary Tyler, an indie film producer from Kenya now based in England. While her films are not African in nature, her journey reflects the breadth of modern Black identity — rooted in heritage, yet free to create beyond it.
