In October 2024, nationally known photographers, Vicky Stromee and Catherine Harold set off on a voyage to sailed to the Falkland Islands and South Georgia Island. South Georgia Island lies more than 1,100 miles east of mainland South America and can only be reached after several days of sailing. There are no airstrips, no places to stay, no permanent settlements. It is truly wild, a land of mountains, glaciers, and ice—one of the most remote places on earth. Here, at the confluence of powerful winds and currents, are globally important numbers of penguins, elephant seals, fur seals, and seabirds. They were grateful for the rare opportunity to go ashore in multiple locations and walk among countless wild creatures who barely noticed their passing. Vicky and Catherine are thrilled to be able to share some of the majesty of this experience through this exhibition catalog of their show at the Tucson Botanical Gardens (March 27-June 29, 2026).
