The contributors in this issue remind us of our shared humanity. Within these pages, you will find harrowing stories of immigration and isolation, the nuances of ethnicity, and a fierce reclamation of women’s roles in a world that tries to diminish them. We share poetry from troubled countries that the news has already forgotten, and we hold space for the pains of being gay in certain societies, the intersectional power of Black womanhood, and the lived reality of homelessness—a perspective often rendered invisible. Contrasting these struggles, we also showcase a love of traditional arts and crafts expressed in new ways and the vibrancy of diasporic landscapes.
