In a world where being a Black girl, finding love, and being human becomes hard–one can question how to exist when existing becomes too tough to stomach. VNYLE: When I Want to Exist is a journey of self-discovery that intertwines mental health and art as a coping mechanism. As the mind, body, and soul are the foundations to finding one’s ground for mental health, poetry becomes the vehicle to express the turmoil that would set the balance off-key, yet assists in staying in place. VNYLE zine continually supports art as an expression of mental health in the Black community, and this model can be replicated and followed to track mental health patterns, review progress, and overall, find your voice to express.
