A WHOLE LOT OF STATIC is a book dedicated to “children of all ages.” Through its striking illustrations and playful yet powerful poems, it unveils a singular, captivating world. Within its pages you’ll meet Storm-Face Flo, GigaVolt, MegaWatt, and a host of other beings – human, animal, and mechanical alike. Together, they inhabit a realm of deep lakes, endless skies, towering mountains, and mysterious dwellings.
Aron Kruschnik, a Hungarian poet and visual artist, lived through communism and now roams the free world, declaring: “I have as many homes as there are squares on a chessboard.” He explains his use of monochrome illustrations with characteristic candor: “Life under communism was black-and-white, sometimes gray – and that’s how I draw.” Kruschnik even resists the label poet, insisting instead: “I simply write word clouds.”
