On a bright Cape Cod Bay, a time-honored tradition unfolds as scallopers practice their craft. This photographic narrative takes you through a day harvesting the treasured Atlantic sea scallop. My images seek to reveal the process: the deployment of heavy dredges across sandy bottoms, the hauling and emptying of the catch, and the skilled hands that seamlessly shuck the scallops. The summer light playing across steel cables and wooden decks drew my eye. Captains Chris and Mike's love of their calling was evident in a livelihood that demands both physical strength and a deep local knowledge of these waters. This collection stands as a portrait of a working day at sea. Through these photographs, I hope to give viewers a sense of what it means to be a scallop fisherman on Cape Cod.
