This photo book is a collection of black and white images that I captured during 2023 using a 1970’s-era Mamiya C220 medium format film camera. The C220 camera creates a 6cmx6cm (square) negative which produces twelve photos per roll of 120 film. A square format image is a bit different than the rectangle format that we are usually used to viewing and can be very visually appealing when composed correctly. Film photography isn’t an exact science, but rather an analog artform, and I’ve come to appreciate the beautiful imperfections that often appear as a result of the process. Almost all of these photos were hand developed by myself in my darkroom as I picked up an old C220 camera and learned to see square.
