Hawaii Island Architecture 2021

Several years ago, a mainland architect who was planning a visit to the Big Island contacted me wondering where they could find recommendations of sites that might be of interest to a design professional. In realizing there was no website out there at the time with an architecture focused list, I put together a couple pages of brief descriptions and weblinks for them. This got me thinking about a book that I had on the shelf. Under a Maui Roof was published in 1994 through the efforts of AIA Maui. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was something like this for Hawai’i Island? A book is a little too ambitions for a group as small as the AIA Hawai’i Island Section. Instead, we have produced a small journal which may be the first of an annual publication. - Shaun Roth, AIA
