I have always looked up to Rob as an athlete, runner, and overall inspirational person. To me, Rob is the epitome of what a winner looks like--confident, driven, strong in mind and body. I'm a perfectionist and I have always seen my depression and anxiety as a weakness. I believed that a winner like Rob doesn’t have such weaknesses. I was very hard on myself because of my belief that strong, smart, competent, and accomplished people don’t have to deal with mental illness. And although I have been seeing a therapist for years, I was never really comfortable or willing to admit to myself that I was vulnerable to depression or anxiety. I was fearful that if I admitted that, or if it were true, that I would somehow be defective or a loser, and would not have what it takes to be a winner.
