This is a personal guide to buying fleeces, based on the hundreds I’ve purchased. The quality I’ve seen has ranged from dismal to exquisite, and prices from free to exorbitant. Just because a fleece is inexpensive does not mean it’s bad. Just because it’s expensive does not mean it’s good.

Producing a healthy, appealing fleece requires myriad small and large actions from the shepherd throughout the year, from nutrition to housing to how feed is provided and more.
