This research project looks beyond skyscrapers, airports, and other structures to look for changes in the business environment over the past 13 years. Ultimately, it seeks to identify to what extent, if any, has Chinese rule exerted influence on Hong Kong's tax system, financial reporting regulations, and general business environment. By looking at this question, China's views on capitalism and how it plans to integrate the forward-looking ideas of Hong Kong into its own economy can be better understood. As China rises on the world's stage, Hong Kong acts as a particularly insightful case study to view Beijing's options to steer its economy over the next 20 to 30 years.
