“Silk Road: Excerpts From an Ongoing Series” has been published to mark 10 years of artist Joanne Mattera’s involvement with one series, whose aesthetic she describes as “lush minimalism.” While Mattera’s studio practices embraces a range of reductive and geometric abstraction, “Silk Road,” which now numbers over 300 small and mid-size paintings in encaustic, is the series she has returned to again and again over the past decade.
