“Your ex-girlfriend is dead” is a graphic book that presents a timeline of feminism and discuss sexism and the objectification of women who have been idolized by the media: Marilyn Monroe, Gia Carangi, Anna Nicole Smith, Dorothy Dandrige, Edie Sedgwick and Amy Winehouse. The goal is to humanize these media figures who have become iconic, inspiring passionate admiration, but had their lives destroyed by consequences of the pressure patriarchy had on them, in order to raise awareness about the impact that objectification had on these women and their audience. The project intends to make the viewer see those women as human beings rather than icons, since the objectification and degradation that stems from idolization reflects the way society views all women.
