The Port Angeles Underground, with subterranean walkways and old store fronts, was created when streets were raised above the tidal flats in 1914. This turned the first floor of many waterfront buildings into basements.

With each restoration project, additional portions of the underground area are being rediscovered and turned into a representation of the history of Port Angeles. The underground tours that are now available to tourist to experience the sights and sounds of a long gone era that is still alive and well.
