This bilingual publication is the end product of a residency, Word Art 2022 - Student Art and Poetry Inspired by Chinese Characters, supported by an Artists in Schools Grant from Vermont Arts Council. Students learned language through cultural exploration and hands-on activities to produce a book that expands teaching and learning opportunities, models student collaboration, and facilitates individual and collective transformation and achievement. During the residency, students worked closely with Chinese teacher/artist Cai and local poets Verandah Porche, GennaRose Nethercott, and Ruth Antoinette Rodriguez to explore classic Chinese poetry and be inspired to craft their own words into poetic outcomes, including making booklets of their own art and poetry.
