A key focus is Reich’s biological & medical research in the 1930s, his studies of the sex-economic & characterological basis of the cancer biopathy, & of the role of bionous disintegration & subsequent reorganization of undercharged tissues into cancer cells, including the role of T-bacilli. Included are articles providing details of his bion experiments. Another focus is Reich’s experimental studies of a radiation emitted by the SAPA bions derived from ocean sand. His elucidation of its nature, which led to the discovery of orgone energy, is described in his correspondence with the physicist W. F. Bon and other articles. Also included is part 2 of Reich’s first paper on work democracy, & a paper written shortly after his arrival in the U.S. reflecting on the position of his work relative to the global social catastrophe of World War II. The closing paper from 1950 places bion research in historical context and interprets transitions between levels of biological organization in terms of orgone biophysics.
