Based on the Sloan neutral community model, it was found that neutral processes explained more than 65% of community variation. More importantly, the Stegen null model analysis showed that the stochastic processes (e.g., ecological drift) explained a significantly higher percentage of community assembly than deterministic processes over seven years, although deterministic processes were more influential in certain years. Our results provide new perspectives for understanding the ecological patterns, processes and mechanisms of testate amoeba communities in freshwater ecosystems at temporal scale, and have important implications for monitoring plankton diversity and protecting drinking-water resources. The catalytic photo-oxidation of p-aminobenzenesulfanilnamide (ABS) with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of Fe-pillared clay as heterogeneous catalyst has been investigated under UV-irradiation (λmax = 254 nm). Fe-pillared clay was synthesized by intercalating the iron polyhydroxycomplexes into the interlayer space of a natural layered aluminosilicate - montmorillonite and a subsequent heat treatment at 500 °C. The catalyst was characterized by chemical analysis, low temperature nitrogen adsorption and XRD. The kinetics of photocatalytic oxidative degradation of ABS in aqueous solutions under various experimental conditions was studied. selleck products The dependence of the photo-oxidation rate on such experimental factors as pH, hydrogen peroxide concentration and catalyst content was established. The conversion of ABS was 100% and the mineralization efficiency was 52.3% at optimal conditions. The intermediate products of ABS photo-oxidation identified by HPLC were a sulfanilic acid, benzenesulfonamide, benzenesulfonic acid, hydroquinone, pyrocatechol, benzoquinone and aliphatic acids. Fe-pillared clay remained highly active in three consecutive catalytic cycles without regeneration. The results of the study suggested that the heterogeneous photo-system «Fe-pillared clay/H2O2/UV» was effective in the oxidative degradation of aminobenzenesulfanilnamide. This system may be of interest for use in organic wastewater treatment processes. Our recent investigation is focused on the discovery of anti-angiogenesis agents. Vascular normalization induced by anti-angiogenic agent appears to be a promising strategy. We have developed novel angiogenesis inhibitors with potency of promoting vascular normalization. Herein, we reported the design, synthesis and preliminary evaluation of proteolysis-targeting chimera (PROTACs) based on the previously developed anti-angiogenesis agents. Two PROTACs exhibited potent VEGFR-2 inhibition and anti-proliferative activity against HUVECs. Moreover, they were capable of reducing protein levels of VEGFR-2 in EA.hy926 cells without significant cytotoxicity against HEK293 cells. The novel PROTACs could be used to normalize the abnormal vessels, resulting in efficient delivery of drugs.Inter-individual differences in emotional reactivity predict susceptibility versus resilience to mood pathology. Using experimentally-naïve outbred rats that vary in locomotor reactivity to the mild stress of an inescapable novel environment [i.e., top and bottom 1/3rd of the population identified as high responders (HR) and low responders (LR) respectively], we determined baseline variations in immune functions. Innate and adaptive immune responses vary basally in LRHR rats, namely a shift towards TH1 in LRs and TH2 in HRs was observed. These inter-individual variations in immune profiles in LRHRs could have significant implications in mood alterations and immune reactivity to microbes and cancer. We described the use of benzodiazepines (BZDs), z-hypnotics, and antidepressants; analyzed the consistency between recorded and detected BZDs among hip fracture patients admitted to two Finnish hospitals during one year; and compared the results with corresponding results from 12 years earlier.
