Sandra Ugoala (Sann)
Ndewo, (Hello) My name is Sandra Womack Ugoala, Sann to those outside of the profession, and this page is all about me! No, I am not related to Bobby Womack, at least, not as far as I know, neither am I related to Leann Womack the country singer. However, there could be a remote possibility we all are distance relatives. Who is to say? Whenever, I say my last name, someone is bound to say, "Huh'? So I sound it out, (just like a teacher) and I tell them that an easy way to remember the pronunciation is to think of Ug as 'oo- ga-la, and the spelling as u-go-(ala)bama, old abbreviation for Alabama. Only one person has said, "Oh, like U-GO-ALABAMA"! That was a hospital registration clerk, smart woman. The name means " Eagles' Land". My husband who is a Nigerian native of the Ebo tribe, gave me this name over 10 years ago. I liked it and decided to keep it. My philosophy of teaching is that we are all students of learning. Students learn from us, and we, as well, learn from them. As teachers, we are master crafters. We have to reach in, shape, and pull out and mold their potentials. Like farmers, we have to till and fertilize, dig and water, cultivate, and continue the process until we see a 'sprout'. After a while we will see changes and growth. We as teachers, produce every profession that exists, thereby, confirming that we are all students of learning, they learn from us and we, as well, learn from them. My greatest accomplishment is completing college. I didn't finish at a young age, well, not too young, like 40ish. But I did finish. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and also my Master of Arts in Education. I am now entering my second year in my PhD Program at Walden University with a specialization in Administration Leadership. I am a teacher of fourth grade students at South Hampton Elementary School and have taught this grade level for almost six years. I love fourth graders. They are quite interesting and very talkative. When I started this trek, I considered first grade, after working with this group of little people, I knew this was the place for me. I absolutely love teaching and was called to it. The classroom is my forum and teaching is my forte. My favorite subject is math because it is the most challenging. This year I am teaching all subject matters. My pastimes, absolute favorites are writing and reading poetry, writing children stories, and traveling. I have written hundreds of poems and several stories. If I had to describe me in one word, that word would be 'simplicity'. I believe that simplicity is the way of life, all the hard things will automatically come. YOU have to keep it simple. I love travelling, you say 'go', I say 'gone'! I am looking forward to traveling with you guys throughout this school year. On that note, I am out of here.
