In the current state of climate change, we must assume that abiotic stresses act together under natural field conditions, these will increase in the coming years. Therefore, in this report we investigated how sugar metabolism was affected under simulated field conditions, where plants faced high ambient temperatures and a low-quality water irrigation. Our studies were carried out on fruits of two tomato recombinant lines, a tolerant and a sensitive one exposed to the combination of heat and salinity. Two ripening stages (mature green and red ripe fruits) were used in our analyzes, where the gene expression levels of the main biosynthetic genes and transporters, enzymatic activities and compounds related to the synthesis, accumulation, and degradation of sugars in plants were analyzed. The tolerant line showed highly significant differences in red ripe fruits in comparison to the sensitive one under the simulated field conditions (35°C + 60 mM NaCl), with an overexpression of the genes SlFBP, SlSPS, SlSUS3, and SlNi. These expression patterns correlated with a higher activity of the enzymes FBP, SPS, SUS3, AI, and G6PDH, which resulted in the accumulation of fructose, glucose and UDP-glucose. Our results showed the advantage of using tomato recombinant lines for rescuing important traits, such as the resistance to some abiotic stresses, and for the identification of important molecular and metabolic markers that could be used to determine fruit quality in green or red maturity stages under detrimental environmental field conditions.Development of latent prints employing cyanoacrylate ester (CA) can be a multistep process including CA fuming and subsequent fluorescent staining to produce fingerprints of sufficient contrast for comparison work. To enable a single-step CA fuming-staining process, a selection of fluorophores have been developed as sublimation dyes in CA fuming. A greater array of such luminescent sublimation dyes would allow users greater flexibility in selecting a particular dye-CA combination to best suit their processing needs. Toward this end, six benzoic acid derivatives were evaluated for use as luminescent sublimation dyes under elementary CA fuming conditions using a single non-porous surface type and an inexpensive handheld UV lamp for excitation. Two benzoic acid derivatives, 2-hydroxybenzoic acid (salicylic acid) and 2-aminobenzoic acid (anthranilic acid), were identified as new potential luminescent sublimation dyes with stained fingerprints excited at 254 nm. The fluorescence intensity and stability of prints produced via the sublimation of CA with 2-hydroxybenzoic acid and 2-aminobenzoic acid were evaluated over approximately six weeks using image and statistical analysis.Children acquire language embedded within the rich social context of interaction. This paper reports on a longitudinal study investigating the developmental relationship between conversational turn-taking and vocabulary growth in English-acquiring children (N = 122) followed between 9 and 24 months. Daylong audio recordings obtained every 3 months provided several indices of the language environment, including the number of adult words children heard in their environment and their number of conversational turns. Vocabulary was measured independently via parental report. Growth curve analyses revealed a bidirectional relationship between conversational turns and vocabulary growth, controlling for the amount of words in children's environments. The results are consistent with theoretical approaches that identify social interaction as a core component of early language acquisition.Proboscis lateralis is a very rare congenital craniofacial malformation characterized by a finger-like tubular appendage arising usually from the medial canthal region. It is mostly unilateral and associated with other craniofacial malformations. Occasionally, proboscis lateralis is seen with holoprosencephaly. A rare case of bilateral proboscis lateralis wh
