Deoxynivalenol (DON) and its acetylated derivatives 3-acetyl-DON (3-Ac-DON) and 15-acetyl-DON (15-Ac-DON) are important mycotoxins of concern in the modern food chain. The present study reveals that the rate of de-acetylation in in vitro anaerobic fecal incubations decreased in the order rat > mouse > human > pig for 3-Ac-DON, and mouse > human > rat > pig for 15-Ac-DON. The ratio between the de-acetylation rate of 3-Ac-DON and 15-Ac-DON varies with the species. Scaling of the kinetic parameters to the in vivo situation results in catalytic efficiencies decreasing in the order human > rat > pig > mouse for 3-Ac-DON and human > pig > rat > mouse for 15-Ac-DON. The results obtained indicate that in mice, 3-Ac-DON can be fully deconjugated while 15-Ac-DON cannot. In rats, pigs, and humans, both 3-Ac-DON and 15-Ac-DON can be totally transformed by gut fecal microbiota during the estimated intestinal residence time. A correlation analysis between the deacetylation rate and the relative abundance of the microbiome suggests Lachnospiraceae may be involved in the deacetylation process. It is concluded that interspecies differences in deacetylation of acetylated DONs exist but that in risk assessment assumption of complete intestinal deconjugation provides an adequate approach. The sample of the study consisted of 36 (n = 36) individuals aged 20.3 ± 1.2 years, who were deaf from birth. The respondents were divided into two groups; (1) those who were living with their parents (n = 20), (2) those who were independently living on their own (n = 16). Results of the study indicated that from May to October, there was decrease in the number of normal mental health cases among those living with parents (p ≤ 0.05). The results of the study show that in the time of the pandemic, deaf people constitute a vulnerable portion of the population. The correlation between living alone and stress levels was 0.78. The correlation between living with parents and stress levels was -0.85. Advanced practice provider (APP) employment is becoming common in pediatric otolaryngology practices, though few studies have evaluated the consequences that APP-led clinics have on access to care. The objectives of this study were 1) to investigate whether access to bilateral myringotomy with tympanostomy tube placement (BMT) for recurrent acute otitis media (RAOM) differed between patients seen in otolaryngologist and APP-led clinics 2) to compare clinical characteristics of patients seen by provider type. Retrospective cohort study at an academic, tertiary care pediatric otolaryngology practice. All children were <18 years old and underwent evaluation for RAOM followed by BMT. We compared time in days from scheduling pre-operative appointment to appointment date and time from appointment to BMT between patients seen by APPs and otolaryngologists using Mann-Whitney U tests and multivariate linear regression models. We compared clinical characteristics by provider type using Mann-Whitney U tests and Fisher exact tests. A total of 957 children were included. Children seen by APPs had significantly shorter wait times for appointments (median 19 vs. 39 days, P < .001) and shorter times from preoperative appointment to BMT (median 25 vs. 37 days, P < .001). Patients seen by otolaryngologists had increased prevalence of craniofacial abnormalities, Down Syndrome, hearing loss, history of otologic surgery, and higher ASA physical status classification.
