Nishi Patel (nishipatel)

Dr. Nishi Patel is a cardiologist specializing in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Critical Care at WellSpan York Hospital in Pennsylvania. His work focuses on caring for patients with complex heart conditions while expanding access to advanced cardiac therapies and incorporating technology into modern clinical care. Alongside his hospital-based practice, he serves as the National Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Telecare, where he oversees cardiac imaging initiatives for a multispecialty telemedicine organization serving approximately 20% of hospitals across the United States.

At WellSpan York Hospital, Dr. Patel manages critically ill patients who require advanced mechanical circulatory support, including ECMO, Impella, and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD). His clinical leadership has contributed to the growth of the hospital’s heart failure program by helping patients receive specialized care closer to home. This approach reduces the need for families to travel long distances while ensuring patients have access to advanced treatment options.

Dr. Patel’s work also includes using remote monitoring technologies, such as CardioMEMS, to help track patient health and reduce hospital readmissions. He has supported advanced diagnostic approaches, including virtual and molecular autopsy protocols, to identify genetic risks associated with sudden cardiac death. These efforts provide important information for surviving family members and support better understanding of inherited cardiac conditions. He has also developed specialized clinics for patients recovering from cardiogenic shock, focusing on long-term recovery and the effects that follow serious cardiac events.

A leader in digital health integration, Dr. Patel has transitioned his expertise into telecardiology to help address gaps in specialty care. Through his national role with Access Telecare, he works to improve access to cardiac imaging services for rural and underserved populations. His leadership in Echocardiography and Cardiac CT initiatives supports the goal of providing quality diagnostic care regardless of geographic location.

Dr. Patel is also dedicated to medical education and research. He serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine. His academic contributions include serving as Editor-in-Chief for the Cardiology and Cardiac CT sections of StatPearls, a medical education platform. He is a recipient of the Zoll Foundation Research Grant and is currently researching precision medicine and genomics related to sudden cardiac arrest.

His scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications and abstracts presented at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA). He also contributes as a reviewer for medical publications, including the American Journal of Cardiology and CardioRenal Medicine.

Dr. Patel completed his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine and completed residency training at Hahnemann University Hospital. He later pursued advanced fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Baylor University Medical Center. He maintains six board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac Computed Tomography (CT), and Nuclear Cardiology.

Beyond clinical care, Dr. Nishi Patel is involved with professional organizations including the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplantation and the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He also supports global health efforts through the World Surgical Foundation and the International Esperanza Project, reflecting his commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for communities around the world.
