Mike Curb (mikecurb)
Mike Curb is a music executive, songwriter, record producer, former Acting Governor and Lieutenant Governor of California, and philanthropist whose career has influenced American entertainment, public service, and community development for more than six decades. As the founder and chairman of Curb Records, he has built one of the oldest independent record companies in the United States still independently distributed. His work has extended beyond music into government, education, healthcare, historic preservation, and social initiatives.
Through Curb Records, Mike developed a reputation for identifying and supporting artists across multiple genres. His work as a producer earned him recognition as Billboard’s Producer of the Year. He produced numerous successful recordings, including #1 records such as “Candy Man” by Sammy Davis, Jr. with The Mike Curb Congregation, “Puppy Love” by Donny Osmond, “Love Me For A Reason” by The Osmonds, “I’m Leaving It All Up To You” by Donny & Marie, “All For The Love Of Sunshine” by Hank Williams Jr. with The Mike Curb Congregation, and “How Do I Live” by LeAnn Rimes.
As a songwriter, Mike composed music for films, including Roger Corman’s The Wild Angels and Clint Eastwood’s Kelly’s Heroes, where he wrote “Burning Bridges.” His creative work also included commercial themes for Honda, Chevrolet, and Hot Wheels, along with the theme for Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. Over the years, Curb Records supported artists in pop, country, and contemporary Christian music, including many award-winning performers.
Mike also contributed to public service after being elected Lieutenant Governor of California. During his time in office, he served as Acting Governor for over 200 days, made over 400 appointments, and worked on legislation involving tax policy, public safety, immigration, and emergency response. He later served as National Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association.
Through the Curb Foundation, Mike has supported education, healthcare, historic preservation, civil rights, and programs assisting underserved communities. His philanthropic efforts include restoring historic Music Row properties, supporting healthcare initiatives, and creating educational partnerships with universities across the country.
Mike has established programs and institutions at 15 universities and colleges, including the Curb College for Entertainment and Music Business at Belmont University and the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media & Communication at California State University. His contributions have earned him numerous honors, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Music City Walk of Fame, along with honorary degrees from seven universities.
