Michael W. Forness is a design-build landscaping specialist based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Also known as “Mike” or “Michael Forness,” he has more than two decades of hands-on experience in high-end residential landscaping. His work focuses on creating outdoor spaces that suit the coastal environment and meet homeowners' practical needs.
Mike earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Central Florida. In 2005, he earned a certified state building contractor license from the Florida State Construction Licensing Board; his education and licensing support both the business and technical sides of his work.
Mike owns Coastal Landscapes of Volusia, which he founded in 2001. The company primarily serves homeowners looking for custom landscaping solutions. Many projects involve riverfront or oceanfront properties, where drainage, soil conditions, weather exposure, and other site factors require careful consideration.
His design-build approach combines planning, engineering, and execution in one process. Mike oversees client consultations, scheduling, project coordination, and on-site work. His projects may include hardscape, plant selection, irrigation systems, and layout design, with each part planned to support the overall outdoor environment.
Working in New Smyrna Beach requires an understanding of salt air, shifting weather patterns, and coastal terrain. Mike applies this knowledge when developing outdoor spaces intended to remain functional and durable over time. Outside of work, Mike enjoys offshore fishing and surfing along Florida’s east coast. He is married to Stephanie, who works in the business as office manager and marketing director. They have three daughters. Ashley graduated from UCF and is currently in nursing school at Daytona State, pursuing the nurse practitioner track. Caroline graduated from Florida State University and is pursuing a career as a CPA. Sarah is a high school honor roll student and goalkeeper for the New Smyrna Beach Cudas and also competes in club soccer for Ormond Beach.
Mike also supports local youth sports programs and has frequently sponsored the high school boys' and girls' soccer clubs through his business.
