Maryjean Viano Crowe (MarieJeanne)
I am an assembler of artifacts, truc found on the street, discovered in vintage catalogues and rescued at flea markets; ideas enfleshed from dreams, movies, poetry and more. I am a sampling and a cobbler, stitching together a creative world from things scavenged and constructed. I am an inventor, altering and reincorporating “matter” into a unique whole. Life.
In my mixed media works I bury imagery, chopping up parts, peeling off and sandpapering layers, then starting fresh but with a history of marks and shadows peeking through.
My influences do not manifest themselves literally, but collectively. They exert themselves in a pan cultural sense, giving the work a global view that extends over multiple cultures, societies, religious practices and ethnicities.
