The most effective and sustainable strategies and methods are discussed also in terms of their more general transferability, already partially tested in programs in Bolivia, Burkina Faso, undeserved areas of Argentina. Conclusions The systematic availability of non-professional, trained HPs should be recommended as a sustainable and reliable component of health care strategies and interventions targeted to marginalized settings, to assure a concrete accessibility to the fundamental human right to life.. Factors associated to patients' outcomes in medical units lessons learnt from an Italian multicentric longitudinal study design (ESAMED study). Introduction Research on nursing outcomes attempted to identify the associated factors, however, with mainly retrospective or descriptive studies. In 2011, an Italian network was established and a multicentric longitudinal study aimed at exploring factors associated with nursing outcomes among in-hospital medical patients was started. JNT-517 solubility dmso Aims To summarise (a) how the research project was originated, (b) which patients have been involved, variables and instruments used, (c) the main findings, and (d) the lessons learnt. Method 12 acute medical units from 11 Italian hospitals were involved. A consecutive sample was adopted on a daily basis, data has been collected at the (a) patient; (b) nursing care, and (c) hospital levels. Results The effect of the variability in the amount of nursing care and skill mix in medical units was explored on the following outcomes (a) hospital-acquired functional dependence, (b) prevalence and incidence of (i) episodes of hyperactive delirium, (ii) avoidable pressure ulcers; (iii) peripheral venous catheter phlebitis; (c) dissatisfaction with the nursing care; and (d) in-hospital mortality; 1464 out of 2082 eligible patients were involved. The frequency and reasons of Missed Nursing Care (MNC), as well as the presence of family caregivers at the bedside were also measured. Conclusions The study confirmed that (a) the amount of nursing care provided by graduate nurses improves patient outcomes; (b) a skill mix in favour of nursing aides, negatively impacts on patients' outcomes; and (c) a higher frequency of MNC threatens patient outcomes.. Notes of method to imagine an education tailored to the future. Health and social inequalities represent a problem not only from an ethical point of view but also from the point of view of public and social health. Unfortunately, this issue remains confined to conferences and debates and is not yet the subject of a serious reflection on how to constructively and permanently incorporate it in the education of health professionals, to provide the skill to read and interpret data, and to make research. This contribution, in addition to providing some reflections, launches an initiative that aims at incorporating these contents in the basic education, to make the message of Florence Nightingale real wounds, suffering, dying and the absurdity of disability can be taken care of, be part of the care, only if you learn to recognize the causes, which are not only in the medical domain.. The contribution of voluntary associations in the process of eliminating mechanical restraint in hospitals. Introduction Eliminating the restraint use in fragile people at any age and pathological condition is an ethical, legal, deontological commitment. Objective To describe the attempt to eliminate restraint use with the involvement of voluntary associations in the Trieste Health Authority. Methods In 2016, a register of volunteers "Albo dei Volontari art. 13" (Register of Volunteers art. 13) was established, and the voluntary service to which 45 people from 7 voluntary associations have joined, after a training course of 6 weeks. Results In the three-year period 2017-19 volunteers served in 17 wards assisting 83 patients, with a commitment of 1108 hours. They were required for people with mobilisation problems, but also w
