Acoustic measures taken either lacked the sensitivity for the perceived decline in voice function or the participants, who were otherwise healthy, managed to adapt the acoustic signal to the tissue changes observed. The extent to which these acute changes may be mitigated with vocal hygiene and voice training is an area for future study.Ideally, an analysis method for laryngeal high-speed videoendoscopy (LHSV) based on the glottal area waveforms (GAW) requires images of a complete view of the glottis to ensure findings that are representatives of the vibratory behaviors of the whole vocal folds. However, in practice, the preferred images may not be obtained at all times. Often, the only available images that a clinician has to work with consist of a partial view of the glottis. This study aims to examine the effects of using images of a partial view of the glottis (ie, posterior-middle, anterior-middle, or middle) on the LHSV-based measures (ie, fundamental frequency (F0GAW), frequency perturbation (jitterGAW), amplitude perturbation (shimmerGAW), open quotient (OQGAW), and Nyquist plot). The participants consisted of 9 young normophonic females. The procedures involved LHSV recording of the vibration of the vocal folds. The images of the complete view of the glottis were analyzed to obtain the LHSV-based measures. The same images were used me conclusion could not be applied to the OQGAW and Nyquist plots of the images of the anterior-middle and middle views of the glottis. A possible effect of the presence or absence of a posterior glottal gap on the findings warrants further confirmation.The emergency department (ED) is responsible for managing a variety of acute illnesses including undifferentiated shock. Herein, we report a case of anaphylaxis induced BRASH syndrome occurring in an elderly diabetic man. The EP should be aware of this unique presentation of BRASH. It was concluded that the patient's anaphylaxis, caused hypovolemia, coupled with polypharmacy, and physiological stress, precipitated this severe form of shock and multi-organ system failure.Influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) plays an important role in viral antigenicity, replication and host range. However, few amino acid positions in HA were reported to play multiple functions in both viral antigenicity and replication. In the present study, through analyzing the amino acid sequences of H9N2 avian influenza viruses (AIVs) isolated from China, we identified a multi-functional substitution of D200N in HA1 protein. Firstly, the substitution of D200N changed the antigenicity of H9N2 AIVs. Secondly, the D200N increased the HA cleavage efficiency and reduced acid and thermal stability of HA protein, which triggered viral-endosomal membrane fusion whereby promoted the release of viral genome into the host cytoplasm. Finally, residue 200-N increased the replication of H9N2 viruses in both chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cells and chicken embryonated eggs.
