Stratification research in the status attainment tradition contends that adolescent educational expectations are a central determinant of educational attainment. Little research, however, has assessed the robustness of the powerful expectations-attainment associations revealed in cross-sectional models. Using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health to estimate OLS, school fixed effects, and sibling fixed effects models, this study examines the association between adolescent expectations and educational attainment. The analysis reveals that adolescent expectations may play a much smaller role in predicting educational attainment than revealed in cross-sectional models. Point estimates of the association between adolescent expectations and educational attainment from sibling fixed effects models are over 50 percent lower than OLS estimates, suggesting that family-level characteristics confound this relationship. Results from these analyses demonstrate that respondents' educational expectations likely exert less influence on educational attainment than status attainment research would suggest.A novel NIR (near infrared) active photothermal agent, CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S has been synthesized by covalent grafting of polyamidoamine (PAMAM) to carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and subsequent deposition of Ag2S nanocrystallites. The potential of CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S as a NIR active photothermal agent was preliminarily accessed by its electronic absorption spectrum measured in UV-vis-NIR region. The CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S exhibited excellent photothermal effect and photothermal conversion efficiency of 26% under illumination with 980 nm laser, the efficiency was found to be higher than popular gold and copper based photothermal agents. Temperature attained by CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S during measurement of its photothermal effect was 64.7 °C at 1 g/mL, which far exceeds the temperature tolerance level of cancer cells. So that CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S could destroy the cancer cells in an effective manner. Furthermore, it was found the linear dependence of photothermal effect of CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S over its concentration. CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S possessed excellent stability against photo-bleaching and photo-corrosiveness. In consideration of its outstanding photothermal effect and photothermal conversion efficiency, CNTs-PAMAM-Ag2S could be a promising photothermal agent to employ in future photothermal therapy.Soft-tissue tumors are rare in the pediatric population. First described in 1969 as myxoma of the nerve sheath, the neurothekeoma is a benign tumor lesion with presumable origin in the nerve sheath. It occurs mainly in female children and presents as a mass of slow, subcutaneous growth, asymptomatic and without alteration of the local pigmentation. It is predominantly located in the head, neck, and extremities of the upper limbs. This report presents the case of a 16-year-old male with a tumor mass originating from the nerve sheath in the 4 th left metacarpal, intraosseous, and relapsed after previous surgical resection 2 years before this observation. A marginal resection of the tumor mass was performed on the distal region of the fourth metacarpal, followed by curettage of the proximal phalanx and filling with structural autologous bone graft. The patient maintained a favorable postoperative clinical evolution, without local pain or range of motion limitation in his fingers. Radiologically, a progressive trabecular filling of the proximal phalanx of the fourth metacarpal was observed. At 17 months of follow-up, the patient is asymptomatic and shows no signs of relapse.
