The effectiveness of cardiovascular stenting procedure depends on the crimping and expansion characteristics of a stent, influenced by its design parameters. In this study, CoCr stents are fabricated, crimped on a tri-folded balloon, and expanded using manual inflation device. Similarly, in the finite element model, a tri-folded balloon is used to expand the stent. The length and diameter are measured to evaluate the radial strength, recoil, foreshortening, and dogboning. The simulation and experimental results match satisfactorily. The validated FE model can be used with confidence to optimize future stent designs, thus reducing the number of testing and product development time.Goose haemorrhagic polyomavirus (GHPV) is the aetiological agent of haemorrhagic nephritis enteritis of geese (HNEG), a fatal disease that impacts geese and has been recorded only in Europe. The present study describes the first clinical cases of HNEG in Taiwan and the phylogenesis of Taiwanese GHPV, and it elucidates the pathogenesis of GHPV infection using in situ hybridization (ISH). The genomes of Taiwanese GHPV were highly similar to the previously reported strains. The diseased geese showed various degrees of vascular damage, especially in the digestive tract. The affected geese in the early stage showed transmural haemorrhagic enteritis in the intestine. In the middle to late stages, the most obvious lesion was hypoxic necrosis of renal tubules around intralobular central veins. Mineralization deposited in the kidney and systemic gout were also found. ISH revealed GHPV DNA in the vascular endothelial cells throughout the body, but not in the parenchymal cells of organs. Accordingly, the pathogenesis of GHPV infection was consistent with viral tropism in the endothelial cells. Specific attack of vascular endothelium by GHPV resulted in endothelial cell necrosis and subsequent increases of blood vessel permeability, as well as secondary circulation disorders, such as oedema, haemorrhage, and ischaemic necrosis in the adjacent parenchyma. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS Cell tropism of GHPV is determined by in situ hybridization. The tropism results in vascular dysfunction and subsequent pathobiology. Haemorrhagic nephritis and enteritis of geese described outside Europe for the first time.Aim Define changes in clinical management resulting from the use of the prognostic 31-gene expression profile (31-GEP) test for cutaneous melanoma in a surgical oncology practice. Patients & methods Management plans for 112 consecutively tested patients with stage I-III melanoma were evaluated for duration and number of clinical visits, blood work and imaging. Results 31-GEP high-risk (class 2; n = 46) patients received increased management compared with low-risk (class 1; n = 66) patients. Test results were most closely associated with follow-up and imaging. Of class 1 patients, 65% received surveillance intensity within guidelines for stage I-IIA patients; 98% of class 2 patients received surveillance intensity equal to stage IIB-IV patients. Conclusion We suggest clinical follow-up and metastatic screening be adjusted according to 31-GEP test results. To reassess reliability and validity of the Submental Nasal Appearance Scale (SNAS) compared to the preliminary pilot study, for assessment of patient photographs with repaired unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP). When utilizing the SNAS, 3 nasal features (1. nasal outline; 2.
