Carolyn & Maurice LeBauer Park which is also known as LeBauer City Park, is an area of 4 acres and $10 million located in the heart of downtown Greensboro, North Carolina which began operations on August 8. Joe LeBauer moved his silk hosiery company to Greensboro North Carolina in the year 1920. Joe LeBauer's son, Dr. Maurice LeBauer was born in the Jefferson Standard Building, where he was a physician and eventually became the surgeon in charge at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. The doctor died in the year 1996. He was married with Carolyn Weill LeBauer. In November 2012, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro announced a $10 million gift from the will of Carolyn LeBauer who wanted a new park for the city. On the 28th of November, foundation president Walker Sanders announced a plan for Carolyn and Maurice LeBauer City Park as part of the center for performing arts. The park would be on Summit Avenue, between North Elm Street and North Davie Street. Summit Avenue would then be altered to become Bellemeade Street. The location was the location of Festival Park and a YMCA was once located there.
