Freihofer’s Baking Co (freihofersbakingco)
Established in 1884 by Charles Freihofer, the son of German immigrants, Freihofer’s Baking Co. had its origins as a modest bakery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Charles’s unwavering commitment to using only the finest ingredients quickly earned the bakery a reputation for exceptional quality. In 1913, a transformative chapter in the company's history unfolded with the construction of the Freihofer Bakery in Lansingburgh, Troy, New York. This modern facility introduced an innovative seventy-foot-long traveling bread oven, enabling them to meet the increasing demands of their customers. However, the bakery's true character was revealed during a torrential downpour in the city of Troy. In an extraordinary display of kindness, the Freihofer Bakery used their newly constructed facility to bake and distribute hundreds of loaves of bread to flood victims, embodying the spirit of goodwill. Expanding from Lansingburgh, Freihofer’s delivery services offered a wide range of baked goods, from delectable bread to mouthwatering cakes and cookies. Initially, these treats were transported using horse-drawn wagons, a tradition that later transitioned to the use of motorized trucks. The 1950s and 1960s introduced the Freddie Freihofer Show, a beloved television program that created special birthday experiences for young studio audience members, complete with hats, boxes of chocolate chip cookies, and cherished "Squiggles."
