As The Hills is primarily a member’s club, forward booking is advised for visitors. Set on the magnificent Kelvin Heights Peninsula, Queenstown Golf Club rises high above Queenstown town and Lake Wakatipu. To the east you can see the Kawarau Falls - The Kawarau Falls Bridge is an essential link on SH6 south of Queenstown which takes you Jacks Point golf course via the Remarkables ski area and mountain range as well as the Double Cone. The southern SH6 highway continues beyond Jacks Point to the small town of Kingston and ultimately to Invercargill and other towns and cities in the south of the island. Upon your arrival at Queenstown airport, you're going to need some golf transport. WHY COME TO QUEENSTOWN TO PLAY GOLF? You can cross the lake in the vintage steamship T.S.S. Earnslaw and enjoy some magnificent vistas. But there’s why I prefaced these quibbles in the way I did – it’s a club course from the 70’s, not designed by ‘experts’, what more can one expect? If you asked me whether I enjoyed the course, I’d not hesitate in saying “absolutely” (even though I played it in the midst of a 5-club wind). There are five or six very strong holes, in particular the show stopping 5th. It was not until 1973 that the club moved to its current home, the Kelvin Heights golf course, situated on the peninsula next to the rather affluent neighbourhood of the same name.A car park is available for each apartment for those keen on driving themselves to and from the golf courses.The course is just 15 minutes drive from the centre of town (or faster by water taxi), making it the closest 18 hole course to Queenstown.QUEENSTOWN. Words cannot truly describe the scenery surrounding this quaint town.If you asked me whether I enjoyed the course, I’d not hesitate in saying “absolutely” (even though I played it in the midst of a 5-club wind). Well, the triangular peninsula in centre shot is Queenstown Golf Club, and that should tell you all you need to know about the splendour of its location.
