Photoactivatable agents offer the prospect of highly selective cancer therapy with low side effects and novel mechanisms of action that can combat current drug resistance. 1,8-Naphthalimides with their extended π system can behave as light-harvesting groups, fluorescent probes and DNA intercalators. We conjugated N-(carboxymethyl)-1,8-naphthalimide (gly-R-Nap) with an R substituent on the naphthyl group to photoactive diazido PtIV complexes to form t,t,t-[Pt(py)2 (N3 )2 (OH)(gly-R-Nap)], R=H (1), 3-NO2 (2) or 4-NMe2 (3). They show enhanced photo-oxidation, cellular accumulation and promising photo-cytotoxicity in human A2780 ovarian, A549 lung and PC3 prostate cancer cells with visible light activation, and low dark cytotoxicity. Complexes 1 and 2 exhibit pre-intercalation into DNA, resulting in enhanced photo-induced DNA crosslinking. Complex 3 has a red-shifted absorption band at 450 nm, allowing photoactivation and photo-cytotoxicity with green light. The most widespread and challenging aggressive malignant tumor in the brain is glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). GBM is characterized, in particular, by significant intratumor cell variability, high growth rates, and widespread invasiveness within the surrounding normal brain parenchyma. The present study aimed to examine the impact of the natural product Zerumbone, a promising sesquiterpenoid phytochemical from Zingiber zerumbet, on U-87 MG GBM cells and its underlying molecular mechanisms. At sub-lethal doses, Zerumbone exerted a concentration- and time-dependent suppression of cell migration ability utilizing scratch wound closure assay; it also inhibited GBM cells' invasion using Transwell invasion assay in a concentration-dependent fashion. The enzymatic activity of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2/-9 and their protein expression has also been reduced by administration of Zerumbone. Furthermore, Zerumbone was revealed to downregulate the mRNA expression level of IL-1β and MCP-1, two genes contributing to MMPs expression. We also found that Zerumbone exerted an inhibitory effect on the expression of Akt and total p44/42 MAPK (Erk1/Erk2) against U-87 MG cells. These findings collectively provide further proof for the possible molecular signaling basis of the antimetastatic effects of Zerumbone as a promising phytochemical, indicating a therapeutic strategy for the treatment of GBM through repression of migration, invasion, and metastasis. This study aimed to investigate sleep patterns of hospital nurses using a wearable electronic device and determine the influence of rotating day and night shifts and lifestyle factors on their sleep efficiency. Nurses working in shifts are vulnerable to sleep disturbances. However, little is known about the influence of rotating day and night shift schedules and healthy lifestyle on nurses' daily sleep patterns. Descriptive correlational design. Thirty-two hospital nurses working in shifts and 32 hospital nurses not working in shifts participated in data collection. Their sleep patterns were measured for six consecutive days using Fitbit Charge 3 , and information on alcohol consumption, exercise, and eating habits were assessed using a questionnaire. Data were analysed using repeated measures analysis of variance with post hoc Scheffe's test and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The study was conducted in accordance with the STROBE guideline. Overall, nurses working on rotating day and n to promote healthy lifestyle among hospital nurses.Clinically, bone destruction caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis was serious especially in patients with vitamin D (VD) deficiency. However, the role of VD in M. tuberculosis-induced bone destruction remains clear. In this context, we investigate the role of VD and vitamin D receptor (VDR) in the M. tuberculosis-induced bone destruction. First, we infected RAW264.7 and bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMMs) with Mycobacterium bovis Bacill
