In order to supplement manufacturers' information, this department will welcome the submission by our readers of brief communications reporting measurements on the physical properties of materials that supersede earlier data or suggest new research applications.A new Doppler coherence imaging spectroscopy interferometer has been developed on the HL-2A tokamak for the scrape-off-layer impurity flow measurement. Its spatial resolution is estimated to be up to ∼0.8 mm in the horizontal direction and ∼9 mm in the vertical direction, with a field of view of ∼34°. Its typical temporal resolution is about 1 ms. This salient feature allows for time-resolved 2D measurements in short-time phenomena on HL-2A, such as edge localized modes. Group delay and interference fringe pattern were calibrated with a dedicated calibration system. The robustness of group delay calibration and the feasibility of the extrapolation model for fringe pattern calibration are demonstrated. In this paper, we report the details of the optical instruments, calibration, and the initial experimental results of this Doppler coherence imaging spectroscopy interferometer.Cryogenic pellet injection will be the prime candidate to fuel future fusion power plants. In order to harvest optimum fueling performance, it is essential to inject pellets from the magnetic high field side of the tokamak. The pellet launching system of the tokamak ASDEX Upgrade injects cryogenic hydrogen pellets with a speed of up to 1000 m/s from the magnetic high field side via curved guiding tubes. Pellets passing the guiding tube are sliding on a gas cushion, generated by the Leidenfrost effect. The actual track has a rectangular cross section and is composed of a series of ellipses in order to generate the required 270° looping type turn; the path length is 17 m. The last part of this track is marked by strong geometrical constraints from the vacuum vessel port. The previous design was composed of a sequence of three sections of ellipses too, tangentially constant but discontinuous with regard to the curvature. It had been in operation for almost 20 years. Its steps in the curvature are supposed to limit the system performance. piperacillin A novel and advanced geometry concept, adopting a method well-known from civil engineering (e.g., for the railroad track design), has been applied to develop an improved design. It relies on clothoid shape sections keeping the track curvatures continuous and, thus, provides a smooth transition between all the elements. The new design presented improves the pellet launching system performance on ASDEX Upgrade and provides knowledge for an advanced design of pellet guiding tubes in future fusion devices. An innovative method based on the traversal of rays, originating from detected particles, through a three-dimensional grid of voxels is presented. The methodology has the main advantage that the outcome of the method is independent of the order of the input; the order of the cameras and the order of the rays presented as input to the algorithm do not influence the outcome. The algorithm finds matches in decreasing value of match quality, ensuring that globally best matches are matched before worse matches. The time complexity of the algorithm is found to scale efficiently with the number of cameras and particles. A variety of show-cases are given to exemplify the algorithm for different geometries and different numbers of cameras. The method is designed for the tracking of tracer or inertial particles in fluid mechanics, for which the particle size generally ranges from O (μm)-O (cm). The method, however, does not impose a size limit on the particles.Output power of a transistorized pulser is usually limited by the power capacity of avalanche transistors. To improve the total output power, the power synthesis method is widely used, in which a single pulser with high output power and high time base stability is required. However, the time base stability te
