Our results suggest that recovery from bleaching can be limited by the loss of symbiont infectivity following exposure to heat stress.Cancer antigen 125 (CA125) is a widely used biomarker in monitoring of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Due to insufficient cancer specificity of CA125, its diagnostic use is severely compromised. Abnormal glycosylation of CA125 is a unique feature of ovarian cancer cells and could improve differential diagnosis of the disease. Here we describe the development of a quantitative lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) of aberrantly glycosylated CA125 which is widely superior to the conventional CA125 immunoassay (CA125IA). With a 30 min read-out time, the LFIA showed 72% sensitivity, at 98% specificity using diagnostically challenging samples with marginally elevated CA125 (35-200 U/mL), in comparison to 16% sensitivity with the CA125IA. We envision the clinical use of the developed LFIA to be based on the substantially enhanced disease specificity against the many benign conditions confounding the diagnostic evaluation and against other cancers.Ecological specialization has costs and benefits at various scales traits benefitting an individual may disadvantage its population, species or clade. In particular, large body size and hypercarnivory (diet over 70% meat) have evolved repeatedly in mammals; yet large hypercarnivores are thought to be trapped in a macroevolutionary "ratchet", marching unilaterally toward decline. Here, we weigh the impact of this specialization on extinction risk using the rich fossil record of North American canids (dogs). In two of three canid subfamilies over the past 40 million years, diversification of large-bodied hypercarnivores appears constrained at the clade level, biasing specialized lineages to extinction. However, despite shorter species durations, extinction rates of large hypercarnivores have been mostly similar to those of all other canids. Extinction was size- and carnivory-selective only at the end of the Pleistocene epoch 11,000 years ago, suggesting that large hypercarnivores were not disadvantaged at the species level before anthropogenic influence.In this paper, I evaluate Sabina Spielrein's life and ideas from a contemporary understanding. Tumor-derived exosomes are now significantly implicating in mediating cellular communication and interactions in TME. The aim of this study was to identify exosomal miR-301a-3p involved in gastric cancer(GC) progression and metastasis. Here, we found hypoxia promote GC exosomes release and miR-301a-3p expression in an HIF-1α-dependent manner. In hypoxic TME, enriched miR-301a-3p could be transmitted between GC cells via exosomes and then contributed to inhibit HIF-1α degradation through targeting PHD3, that were capable to hydroxylate HIF-1α subunits to ubiquitinate degradation. This synergistical positive feedback loop between HIF-1α and miR-301a-3p facilitated GC proliferation, invasion, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. In clinical samples, we further discovered circulating exosomal miR-301a-3p in serum was positively related with peritoneal metastasis. Collectively, these data indicate that GC cells could generate miR-301a-3p-rich exosomes in the hypoxic TME, which then help to HIF-1α accumulation and promote GC malignant behaviors and metastasis.
